“Sometimes it snows in April”, a well-known song once taught us. Nevertheless, April is the month when everyone feels like heading out. The days are getting longer, terraces are increasingly tempting, and the Easter weekend, along with the traditional chocolate egg hunts, is the perfect excuse for a family outing. Here are a few more ideas to try this month, all easily accessible with STIB.
The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken
It’s the springtime event Brussels looks forward to every year. For just a few weeks, the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken open their doors, offering a stroll through majestic architecture, spectacular glasshouses and blooms that capture the essence of spring. Definitely the kind of outing that feels like you’ve left the city… even though you’re still right in it.

Brussels in bloom
Sometimes, the best plan for April is simply to go for a walk. Between the Cinquantenaire, Bois de la Cambre, the Sonian Forest and the streets of Schaerbeek, where Japanese cherry trees usually blossom during the first two to three weeks of April, Brussels starts to look like a picture postcard. It’s the perfect season for an impromptu stroll, a sunny afternoon treat or an Easter egg hunt that turns into a springtime walk. It won’t be Japan, but it’s a pretty good substitute.
Practical info:
Location: nearly anywhere in Brussels. We recommend the Cinquantenaire area, the Bois de la Cambre, the Sonian Forest and the Schaerbeek area
Dates: the entire month of April, especially at the beginning of the month, when the cherry trees are blooming
How to get there: most Brussels parks and areas are easily accessible by tram, bus or metro. Wherever you want to stroll, STIB will get you there

In short, April offers plenty to fill your weekends, your Wednesdays, and even a few spontaneous evenings. Whether you’re into fantasy films, jazz, exhibitions, flower-filled strolls or you are officially on Easter egg hunt duty, Brussels has something to your liking. And to get to all these events, think STIB! It’s also the perfect time to check that your monthly season ticket has been renewed: no one wants to be left on the platform when Brussels is buzzing with activity.
