Validating your MOBIB card is mandatory. This has several reasons… which you may not be aware of.
First of all: don’t worry. The data on your MOBIB card is anonymous. There are two types of data: the personal information needed to create a season ticket and the journeys you make. Both types of information are stored in two separate databases that are not linked to each other.
Because if we’re being honest, we don’t need to know where miss Smith went last Wednesday morning, but we do want to know where and when the large flows of travellers use our net. Read on to understand why:
1. Adapted timetables
Thanks to the number of validations, we know on which lines we need to operate more vehicles to increase passenger comfort. Based on the information from our validation machines, we can increase the frequency of our lines where necessary.
2. Larger vehicles
On lines with high passenger numbers, we can better accommodate larger crowds by deploying articulated buses, for example during peak times at schools. The ticket validation machines provide us with the data to better define these peak times.
3. Improved stops
Are the stops where many passengers board sufficient, or do we need to improve the infrastructure? If you validate your MOBIB card when you board, we can take this into account.
4. Easier connections
If you validate your ticket or season pass when you switch to another vehicle, we can adjust the timetables so that connections better reflect reality.
5. Realistic peak hours
By analysing the data, we gain insight into when the actual peak hours happen. That way we can check whether these hours correspond to our planned timetables. If necessary, we can adjust the service schedule to better respond to your actual needs.
Benefits of a MOBIB card
In addition to these five good reasons to validate, your MOBIB card also has several advantages!
Previously, the speed at which you could validate your paper ticket at the gates was limited to eight persons per minute. With a MOBIB card, that number has increased to up to 20 persons per minute. That means validation has become a lot faster.
Maybe you noticed that our MOBIB validation machines are even faster than before, thanks to a new generation of devices. They provide more practical information about your ticket. For example, the “beep” is different when your season ticket is about to expire (in less than 5 days) or when you only have 3 journeys or less left. The info button on the validator gives you an overview of all the tickets on your card.
